The EPCCS aims to focus on the interests of professional practitioners working within primary care to:
- Understand and utilise the considerable evidence base for CVD prevention and management that currently exists
- Contribute to extending the evidence base where appropriate
One principal emphasis for the Society is upon the education of practitioners. Symposia are organised around major primary care meetings (such as WONCA, ESH and ESC) but stand-alone meetings also occur, with a major 2 day meeting held once a year. We also are happy to hold joint meetings with other SIGs and have done 2 already with the Primary Care Diabetes Europe (PCDE). We have managed to forge close links with the European Society for Cardiology, to bring the EPCCS closer to our specialist colleges. We have invested latterly in an interactive educational website and hope to extend the content of this over time to include summaries of recent published cardiovascular studies relevant for primary care. Future plans include the launch of a European Primary Care Cardiovascular Journal, and opportunities to take part in European collaborative cardiovascular research projects.
